Jon and Chrystie Greer
Greer Equine was started out of love for these beautiful, magnificent animals. We saw a need for quality horse transportation, and God opened the door for us to start offering a value-driven horse hauling service.
We (Jon and Chrystie Greer) have been married since 1998 and have two beautiful children. I (Chrystie) have had hands on experience with horses since age seven. My dad bought our first horse in 1983 for my sister. She lost interest in our brand new gelding right away, and I fell in love at first site! I used to sleep in the barn with our little gelding when he was only a yearling. I trained him and loved him for almost twenty years until I had to sell him and go to college. I showed him in Western Pleasure and Trail Classes through my early teens and twenties. I was one of those girls who had horse figurines, horse story books, horse novels, horse decorations, horse everything!
Between the year 1998 and 2011, I did not have a horse. There were many times that I would long to have one again, and would find myself booking horsebackriding trips, or going to be with friends that had horses. There was something missing, and I told myself that I would have horses again someday. I went to school until 2000, while working full time at my parents health food store. I worked in corporate america for 2 years, then had my first child in 2002. I was a stay at home mom for a short time, then decided to start a wedding business from home in 2003 when my son was very little. I became a Wedding Planner and did wedding flowers from home. I gave birth to my second child, a daughter in October 2003. I worked to build a successful business. I opened my first office and warehouse in 2006. I expanded in 2009 by moving into a retail setting and refurbishing an old O'Reilly's Auto Parts store. We made a beautiful showroom and business was booming. The one problem was that I was working way too much, with little time for family, rest, or any kind of relaxation. I decided to sell the business in 2011. It was time for horses again! I told my husband, it was part of my therapy. :)
I adopted our sweet big mare, Topaz, pictured right, in February of 2011. She was foaled in Canada at a PMU Ranch in May of 2009, and was rescued by a sweet lady who couldn't stand the thought of horses going to slaughter. I had Topaz hauled here from San Antonio, and couldn't believe how expensive it was! Now I know why! It takes a special person to safely and confidently move these precious creatures from point A to point B. Many horse owners consider their animals a part of their family, and I saw how important it was to make sure they have a good travel experience and arrive without damage or distress.
I worked for my previous company as a consultant until May of 2012 to train the new owner, then took a leap of faith and started a new career in insurance. I was hired by State Farm in July of 2012 and I earned my insurance licenses for home, auto, specialty, business, commercial, pets, life, health, you name it. I also earned my state and national mortgage license and my Registered Representative Status to sell securities. I quit State Farm because I wanted to work in a different location, so I chose to start with Farmers in June of 2013. I have been with Farmers as an agent ever since. I love my job and the flexibility that it allows for me to be the wife, mom, and loyal horse owner that I've always wanted to be.
I trained Topaz to ride when she was 3. I have been building on her training and skills since I adopted her in 2011. She has been a joy to me.
I purchased a second horse in 2012, and he was eleven at the time. His previous owner had abandonded him at the stable where we were boarding Topaz. He had been at pasture for two years, and we really weren't sure if he would be good around people again. He was beautiful and a registered AQHA point earner. I knew if he was great before, then he could be great again. It only took about 3 months of consistency to bring him back around. He is now the best horse I have EVER ridden to this day. He had extensive Parelli training and I was able to brush up on his skills. He is worthy of You tube videos for sure. LOL. This year, I have attended some valuable horsemanship clinics and have built on my horse knowledge in a positive way.
We have a great horse trailer and we decided to put it good use. Greer Equine was established in 2015. My husband, Jon does a wonderful job hauling the horses. He has a way with them and excercises patience and kindness with them. He works part time for our previous business as a driver, and now does the horse hauling several days a week as well.
We attend church in Denton, Texas. We live in Watauga, Texas, and we rent 3 acres with a 4 stall barn in North Richland Hills, Texas for our horses pleasure. LOL The adjacent property includes 50 acreas of trails and ponds.
I am available to email a quote 7 days a week. I check our emails regularly. You may also text me for a quote. We attend church on Sunday mornings, but Jon will still haul a horse if that is the only day that you can arrange the transportation. Thank you for considering Greer Equine for your horse transportation needs. We value the opporunity to earn your business.
